FAQ
In our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section you will find common concerns, questions, and objections that customers have.
Can radiant heaters heat a room?
A radiant heater can heat a room in a fraction of the time it takes using other, more traditional methods of heating. This is because the heater does not heat the air, it heats objects. This not only allows you to stay toasty warm during the coldest parts of the year; it also saves you money on heating costs.
What are BTUs?
British Thermal Units (BTUs) are a unit of measurement by which the heat output of radiators can be determined. A BTU is approximately the energy required to heat 1lb of water from 39°F to 40°F. The heat output of radiators and towel warmers is often given in the form of BTUs, which allows homeowners to be sure that the products they are buying will supply enough heat.
What are Watts?
Watts are an alternative unit of measurement for heat output, and the wattage required to effectively heat a room is determined by factors such as its dimensions, the size of its windows and the material from which its walls are built. Watts can also be easily converted to BTUs (1 W = 3.412142 BTU/hr).
How do I calculate Watts for my room?
A wattage calculator can provide you with an accurate assessment of how many watts are required to adequately heat your room. For the most accurate calculation you may contact us or a professional plumber. Please note that the figure calculated is the required output of all heaters in the room (larger rooms may require more than one heater). For your convenience we added a calculator to your web site in “technical data tap”
Can I use any Thermostat?
When it comes to plug and play device, YES! When it comes to hardwired your headed panel, NO! You will need to look for a thermostat that works for 120V. The package will say compatible with 120 Volt and 220 Volt. You will need a Line/Low voltage Thermostat, commonly used with Base Board heaters. See more on our “thermostat tap”. Please have an electrician hook up your panel.
Do you ship?
We do not ship, however we will bring the panel to a shipping company of your choice. We let them pack the panel and ship to you. You are responsible for payment and we advice our customers to take on insurance.
How durable is granite?
Mohs scale is the measuring unite for mineral hardness. Granite has a ranking of 6 on the Measurement of Hardness scale. This rank indicates the strength and density of granite materials. The hardest mineral found in the nature is Diamond and it scales at 10.
How can I mount my panel on to the wall?
The 300 Watt panel comes with a stand and you can purchase brackets if you choose to hang your panel. All our other panels come with exposed brackets and can be mounted vertical and horizontal. Our hidden bracket system will have a up charge.
Is radiant heating any good?
Radiant heating panels are a relatively new way in the USA to heat your house. This kind of heating is widely used in Europe. By transferring heat more efficiently panel heaters can provide a good alternative to conventional central heating systems. Integrate your panel with a solar panel and it makes it a great heating source for log cabin.
Are radiant heaters safe?
In comparison to electric heaters, radiant heaters can also be far safer. Radiant heaters do get hot as some electric heaters when they are in operation, the panel is hot to the touch and if touched with a sensitive part of the skin burn can accrue, just like any other heater. The good part with radiant heating is that you can mount it high on the wall or ceiling and can easily avoid getting in contact with it. You should still follow proper safety precautions with your radiant heater, you will be able to enjoy a perfectly safe environment with lots of health benefits. The heaters also provides more comfortable warmth since it does not heat the air, and is cheap and efficient to use, therefor safe to use in homes with children or pets. The heat that is put out by the stone is so gentle that it is used in the Vatican City to preserve all the sculptures and painting. Thank goodness I would hate to see the Sistine Chapel fade away.
How much does it cost to run an radiant heater?
Our radiant heaters cost between $199 and $699 to buy, depending on the wattage size; though your electric bill will depend on wattage and hours used per day. Buying an radiant heater is well worth it, no need to purchase a new one every year due to corrosion or rust. It will cost you pennies to run a heater and even more so cost efficient if operated with a thermostat. Our first heater we created has been in operation for the past 5 years, (today year 2019).
Where do I use a radiant heater?
Anywhere you need heat! He-shed, she-shed, under a desk, nursery, child room, bedroom, basement, sun-room, bathroom, pool, office, chicken coop and pet area. Really, anywhere you need heat. As long as you have an outlet you have heat.
Does radiant heat dry out the air?
Other heaters that circulate warm air through a fan often heat the air, reducing the oxygen in the room and reducing the amount of humidity in the room. Radiant heaters require no oxygen from the room, and they often reduce the need for humidifiers during the winter, as they do not dry out the air. This eliminate mold or mildew build up in your home. With our granite heaters you never have to worry about rust or corrosion. This is a heater that your home and your health will than you for.
Do radiant heaters heat the air?
Radiant heaters are more energy-efficient than other space heaters. This is because, unlike other supplemental heating appliances, radiant heaters do not heat the air and instead emit infrared radiation that only warms the objects the radiation touches.
How do radiant heating panels work?
They work by turning electricity into infrared energy, which is directed at surfaces to warm the room. They work differently from convection heaters, which heat the air rather than surfaces, which makes these panels a more efficient way to heat a space.
How much electricity does a radiant heater use?
Our radiant heaters can have ratings as high as 1270 Watts to as low as 300 Watts. Our heaters start with 2.71 amp up to 10.58 amps. Simple math can help you understand how much electricity your radiant heater uses an hour or a day and consequently how much money you pay and save.
Can I use radiant heater in the bathroom?
Yes, our radiant heaters are water resistant (not water proof) and ideally for use in splash-zone area like bathroom, sauna or pool.
Are radiant heaters energy efficient?
When electricity passes through the granite, it heats the granite stone. Our heaters are more energy efficient and safer than many heaters, not only do they heat up quickly but they also hold the heat once the stone has been turned off.
Is radiant heating good for you?
Radiant heating has a number of advantages. Please read our “Advantage page”. It is more efficient than baseboard heating and usually more efficient than forced-air heating because it eliminates duct losses. People with allergies often prefer radiant heat because it doesn't distribute allergens like forced air systems can. The heat that is put out by the stone is so gentle that it is used in the Vatican City to preserve all the sculptures and painting. This is truly a heat that your home and your health will thank you for.
What does radiant heating mean?
Radiant heating is a technology for heating indoor and outdoor areas. Radiant heating as a technology is more narrowly defined. It is the method of intentionally using the principles of radiant heat to transfer radiant energy from an emitting heat source to an object. While the wind blows outside your car, the sun heats up the space in your car and it radiant the warmth of the sun in to your space. This is how our granite heating panel works.
Which is better radiant or convection heater?
Convection heaters work more slowly and less efficiently, but provide sustained heat over a long time and larger areas. Radiant heaters provide a concentrated beam of heat that warms people and objects very quickly and efficiently.
Is radiant heat cheaper than forced air?
A high efficiency condensing furnace can cost more than a slightly less efficient boiler. Radiant heat systems run silently. Forced-air systems are relatively noisy. Radiant systems provide better indoor air quality than forced air systems and yes it is cheaper then using forced air simply because forced air heats up the air, once the air raises it gets cold and droops to the floor, its a circle that will continue. Radiant heating will heat the object in the room and no need to sit right next to the blowing air.
What makes it energy efficient and healthy?
Radiant heating systems supply heat directly to the room, wall or ceiling of a house. It is more efficient than baseboard heating and usually more efficient than forced-air heating because it eliminates duct losses. People with allergies often prefer radiant heat because it doesn’t distribute allergens like forced air systems can. Natural stone is the most effective heater, because it conducts heat well and adds thermal storage. This will also be cost efficient after turning off the panel, the heat stored in the panel will still radiant out in to the room.
Controlled with a thermostat you never have to return to a cold home. This result in cost and energy savings compared with other systems when rooms are infrequently occupied. Sleeping in a cold room is healthy, getting ready in a cold bathroom is another story (at least for me). But I don’t need to heat the complete home if I only want to use the bathroom for a short hour and then leave the house for work or school for 8-10 hours.
Energy efficiency does not stop there. If you retrofit your bathroom heating panels with a towel hook you towel will dry and eliminate mold and mildew, this on the other hand will eliminate you having to use your washer and dryer after a day of using a towel that does not dry before the next use. No matter if you have floor heat, especially during the summer when the air conditioning is running, towel don’t dry and the use of washer and dryer are far more expensive then running a natural stone heater for 1 hour. With that said, a moist environment is most conducive to germs and mold. When a towel gets a sour, musty smell it is a sign that a bacteria colony is breeding and growing. Time to use the washer, dryer, hot cycle, vinegar and baking soda. You will eliminate those steps for good. Integrating Natural Stone heating system along with a Solar panels you can heat a home or a cabin cost efficient and safe.
What are the cost and why is it energy efficient?
Although the initial investment is slightly higher, your money comes back to you through ongoing savings in fuel costs. Heat loss by air infiltration and through windows is greatly reduced. Radiant energy doesn’t collect at the ceiling, along the walls, and around windows like forced air heating systems do. Your thermostat(s) can be set lower while maintaining the same level of warmth and comfort in your home.
Do I need a panel in each room?
You are able to choose the rooms or areas of the home or building which are to be heated and to what desired temperature. Multiple thermostats can be installed to control different areas which may require more or less heat. Sometimes a south-side room is warmer then a north-side room so there for you can adjust the thermostat. Or as it is in my household, my daughter likes it cold while the my son likes it hot. No one is messing with the thermostat anymore.
How do I maintenance the panel?
You don’t. There are no filters to change, filter to replace, or ducts to clean. Just wipe and clean the stone with a damp cloth (when it is cool) and you get to enjoy your panels for many years.
